Hey film people! Just watched the latest outing in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, “Singham Again.” Some thoughts must spill out. Now, why not pour yourself a steaming cup of chai and read forward to enjoy the big-budget affair of action.
The Good Stuff First
Okay, so what’s working lets start with that! Ajay Devgn still owns it as Singham; he has that commanding space we all have grown to love. And do not be taken by surprise at this – Arjun Kapoor and Tiger Shroff really do turn out some of the best parts of the movie. Arjun can pull off a pretty convincing bad guy, way better than in his hero roles and Tiger’s action scene in that ashram really is genuinely super cool.
The Bad Parts
Things get a bit messy there. We all love massive explosions and action sequences like in the Rohit Shetty style, but somehow they are really being missed out here. Places look a bit off the mark in special effects, a few action feels rushed and artificial. It is like most favorite recipe being made over substitute ingredients- it is okay but not that you like.

Too Many Cooks in the Kitchen?
The movie is an all-star cast – Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and many more. So, with just 2 hours and 24 minutes to be at one’s best, nobody gets enough of the time to shine. It’s like having a party with too many guests and not enough time to chat with anybody properly!
The Ramayan Connection
There’s a bit of a try at weaving in with a subplot of Ramayan, but it really feels kind of forced. It follows the story sometimes and doesn’t others-it’s like trying to fit square pegs into round holes. If they’d kept things rather simpler and have concentrated more on its storyline it could have maybe done better.
The Greatest Disappointment
Remember how all people were really set about when Salman Khan joins the cop universe? Well.don’t blink or you’ll miss him! At such unripe stages, it feels like ordering a thali and getting just one small piece of papad. Sad that Salman Khan was so cautiously treated in this movie!
Should you see it?
This is a theme for a die-hard Singham fan; probably enough for that type of movie fan. It’s not a bad film, just comfort food that does not taste as good as when mom cooks it. Action is good, the moments so entertaining and better than many of the movies out there.
But if you are expecting the same magic as in Singham, either way, or are looking out for seeing a lot of your favorite stars, you may have to readjust your expectations a bit. Moving forward while “Singham Again” does not prove to be a complete dud, one can see glimpses that perhaps Rohit Shetty needs to reload his creative ammunition. The franchise still has potential, but with better execution and a few new ideas in the right direction, of course. Hope this is not the last roar from our lovely Singham but a wake-up call for the next installment to roar back into action!
P.S. – If you do watch it, be awake to the end – Salman’s cameo is quicker than the time it’s going to take to say “Singham”!
