Hey, guys! I watched Jigra, and I had to share my thoughts on it because it’s quite a journey. The movie stars Alia Bhatt as Satya, a determined sister trying to save her brother from being executed in a fictional Southeast Asian country. This film puts a fresh twist on a classic rescue story by featuring a strong female lead who won’t stop until she gets her brother back.
Right from the beginning, Alia truly comes out as a Satya. She excellently exhibits a combination of strength and determination along with fragility that really captivates you. I felt she wanted Ankur desperately- brother- played by Vedang Raina. When these two share the scenes, it does make you clear about her intention that in the cost of saving brother Satya will do any kind of work. Raina also doesn’t disappoint as a young boy caught in a terrible circumstance. The sibling bond adds depth to the emotional level you feel for them.
Another notable performance in Jigra is that of Manoj Pahwa as Bhatia, an ex-gangster who assists Satya in her mission. He brings warmth and humor to the role, which lightens the serious tone of the movie. His character becomes a father figure to Satya, making their relationship a key part of the story. Their interactions balance the intense moments with some much-needed laughs.
Now, while the movie has a lot going in its favour, there is a little to note. One thing is that Jigra is about 20 minutes too long, making a few scenes feel stretched. There were times when I thought, “Let’s get to the exciting parts already! ” After a while, the pacing picks up very slowly, after the initial setup, which then makes it a bit too predictable.
You begin to surmise the direction the tale is to take and lose the suspense for part of it.
But it’s at the end, the last act, that Jigra truly starts to get into full swing. The jailbreak scene is exhilarating, with heart-pounding moments at every turn. Yes, it is a little unbelievable, but so good that you find yourself getting swept up in the emotion. Alia is on top of things here, playing her bravery and determination very well. You cannot help but root for her as she faces difficult odds.
Visually, it’s a beautiful film. Great cinematography by Swapnil S. Sonawane is used to capture the setting and danger. The background music by Achint Thakkar adds energy to the film, making emotional scenes and action-packed ones stronger. Overall, Jigra is an interesting film, mixing action, drama, and strong emotions.
Though it is not flawless, there are enough thrills and heartfelt moments that can make you enjoy the movie. Jigra is a film featuring a strong female lead character who does anything for family; thus, if you have the urge to watch this, you will not go wrong. You will find yourself cheering for Satya in the fight to rescue her brother, and this movie is sure to be etched in your memory!
